999 Hiawatha Apartments
Seattle WA | 2013
Architect: MulvannyG2 Architecture
Key Personnel: Warren Pollock -Designer and team Design Leader, Kevin Sutton, Chris Record, Eric Richards.
The development has 96 apartments and 3 live/work units. Rent per sq. ft. is high but units are small so rent is affordable. The location is along the edge of a residential neighborhood where it borders an old manufacturing and light commercial area. The design responds with a mix of materials including painted bevel siding to coexist with the houses to the east and galvanized steel to fit comfortably with the commercial / light manufacturing uses to the West. The street façade is 91m / 300ft long and the repeating forms provide some predictability in a neighborhood that lacks character.
